For today’s computer tip I want to talk about the importance of having a surge protector. I can’t stress the importance of securing all your important electronic devices. If you want to guarantee a longer life for your electronics then you need to have a surge protector.

Computer Tips: Part one 

The purpose of the surge protector  is trap and disperse voltage that exceeds past normal limits. The reason for the extra voltage is due to power spikes. When power spikes occur after a period of time the device activates a metal oxide varistor which disperses the extra voltage. There is one fatal flaw using surge protector and the truth is that they wear out through overuse.

Computer Tips: Part two

Say for example if you had one for maybe five years or more then more than likely it may be a good idea to purchase a new one. It has been said that surge protectors actually have sensors that detect extra voltage and may wear out and become useless over time. Luckily surge protectors aren’t expensive at all so you can pretty purchase one without spending too much money.

So lets say you do not have a surge protector connected to your computer. Unfortunately you run the risk of internally damaging your computer like your hard drive, motherboard, video card, memory etc. Disasters like these can prove to be very deadly to the health and well-being of your computer. Not only damaging your computer but a fire can be started. So as a final reminder
